For Marcus
"You knew your angels loved you
but you also knew they would leave
someone they could not save."
from The Silence
"The Holy Worm of Praise" Poems by Philip Schultz - Harcourt Books - (c) 2002
Empty, suspended in the deepest deep,
Light remembered in circles, out of reach.
Drift slowly sentenced, unmoored and unsaved –
The light is sinking, goes dark, gone
By then, too late to turn, find the surface.
Tangled in depth, beyond rapturous breath –
That was once the only purpose
And so, false familiar, before I wake,
but silenced and left by a cursed curse,
lifted once – remembered the one true wish.
The light is sinking, goes dark, sleep
